What the two applicators do
The forehead applicator sits over the frontalis, the muscle that lifts the brow, and the cheek applicators over the zygomaticus and risorius, the muscles that lift the cheeks and the corners of the mouth. HIFES makes those muscles contract in pulses, building their density and resting tone, which is what lifts the brow and the cheek. At the same time synchronised radiofrequency warms the skin over them to the temperature at which it lays down new collagen and elastin, which is what smooths the forehead lines and the nose-to-mouth fold. Nothing goes through the skin.
What the studies measured
The device is FDA-cleared in the US for the non-invasive temporary reduction of facial wrinkles. The study submitted for that clearance followed 42 patients through four treatments: wrinkle scores had improved at three months, every patient reported being satisfied, and no adverse events were recorded. Peer-reviewed studies since then measure the same thing in different ways. A 2024 study of 24 patients found 36.6% fewer wrinkles, measured in 3D, three months after a course. A 2024 study of 21 patients found an average lift of 23% in the brows and cheeks. A 2025 study of 37 patients measured the brow sitting 2 to 3 mm higher at 24 weeks. BTL's own headline figures are 37% fewer wrinkles, 30% more muscle tone and 23% more lift. In our clinic the brow and the cheeks are where patients see the change first.
Who it suits
The best candidates are people in their late thirties to sixties with an early drop at the brow, flattening cheeks, a softening jawline or fine lines on the forehead: mild to moderate laxity (loose skin), where there is muscle and skin to work with. It restores volume at the cheekbone without adding filler, which is why people who have stopped liking the look of filler are among our most satisfied patients, and it leaves every expression intact.

The course
Four sessions about a week apart, 20 minutes each for the forehead and cheeks together, with the main result six to twelve weeks after the last session and the after photograph at three months. The result holds for around twelve months for most people in our experience; one session every three to six months keeps it. The sessions page has the full timeline.
Adding the eyes or the chin
The forehead and cheeks are one area each. The eye applicator runs alongside them when the eye area needs lifting, and the submentum applicator treats under the chin and the jawline as a third area. The clinician agrees the set at the consultation and the quote covers it.
