Yes, for the right face. EMface lifts and smooths a face with mild to moderate laxity (loose skin) by working the lifting muscles and the skin at the same time. BTL, the manufacturer, reports from its own trials an average of 23% more lift, 30% more muscle tone and 37% fewer wrinkles for people who complete a four-session course, with the best results six to twelve weeks after the last session. In our clinic the brow and the cheeks are where patients see the change first.
What the trials report
BTL's company figures for a completed course are 37% fewer wrinkles, 30% more muscle tone and 23% more lift. BTL also reports a 26% increase in collagen and a doubling of elastin from its histology study, which was done on animal skin rather than on patients. Those are the manufacturer's numbers, and we present them as such.
Peer-reviewed studies on patients point the same way. A 2024 study of 24 patients measured 36.6% fewer wrinkles, measured in 3D, three months after a four-session course. A 2024 study of 21 patients found an average lift of 23% in the brows and cheeks. A 2025 study of 37 patients measured the brow sitting 2 to 3 mm higher at 24 weeks. The study BTL submitted for the US clearance followed 42 patients through four treatments: every one reported being satisfied and no adverse events were recorded. A BTL-sponsored pilot of ten patients, published in a peer-reviewed journal, found improvement in seven of the eight faces assessed at three months. These are small studies with short follow-up, which is why we also tell you what we see.
What we see in our clinic
Our team has run EMface since the device arrived in the UK, over several thousand sessions, and the pattern matches the trials. The brow and the cheeks lift first, the fold from the nose to the mouth softens, and the skin looks tighter and brighter at around three months. We take the after photograph at three months, when collagen and muscle density have built, and compare it with your own before photograph.
Our patients have reviewed the clinic on review.clinic, an independent review platform, where EMface at our clinic holds 4.9 out of 5 from 143 reviews with 100% saying the treatment was worth it (November 2026). The reviews that mention the eyes and the jawline are the most useful to read before you book.
Why it works: muscle and skin together
EMface is the first device to treat the skin and the muscles of the face in one session. Synchronised radiofrequency warms the dermis, the living layer of the skin, to the temperature at which the skin starts producing new collagen and elastin, which smooths lines and improves texture. HIFES, high intensity facial electrical stimulation, makes the lifting muscles contract selectively: the frontalis lifts the brow, the zygomaticus and risorius lift the cheeks and the corners of the mouth. Working those muscles increases their density and resting tone, and that is the lift. The how EMface works page takes you through a session step by step.
What EMface does well
- Lifting a brow that has started to drop and opening the eye area.
- Restoring volume at the cheekbone without adding filler.
- Softening the lines from the nose to the mouth and the early jowl.
- Improving skin tone and texture across the forehead and cheeks.
Where it is not the answer
EMface does not remove fat under the chin on its own: the submentum applicator helps with a soft double chin, but a fat pad needs a different plan. It is not designed for skin that has lost its elasticity, where the jowls hang. If a fold of loose skin at the jaw stays when you lift it, that is more than EMface lifts, and the clinician will say so at your free consultation and point you to the treatment that fits. And it does not stop the face moving: it lifts, and every expression stays.
When you see the result
A fresher, lightly lifted look appears within days of each session, from fluid movement and muscle tone. The main result comes six to twelve weeks after the last session, as collagen and muscle density build, and holds for around a year for most people in our experience. The full EMface guide has the session-by-session timeline.
